Twitter index: Google to acquire Motorola Mobility, .....


Google surprised the technology world with the news that it intends to acquire Android smartphone and tablet maker Motorola Mobility in an attempt to “supercharge” its Android operating system.
Microbloggers are discussing the announcement, tweeting about what it means for competitors, posting about how it will impact the Android ecosystem and weighing the pros and cons of the deal.
Twitter users are vexed that Indian social activist Anna Hazare’s arrest has been overshadowed by the news of Google’s acquisition. Nevertheless, his supporters are using their 140 characters to organize protests in the region and spread the news of his arrest.
“Dear Mumbaikars, please reach Azad Maidan in large numbers to protest against Anna's arrest, send sms to friends to join you there,” “More than 3000 people at freedom park,Bangalore now,despite heavy rain,to protest Anna's arrest!Way to go Bangalore!!” and “Show your support for Anna's campaign. Everybody turn up at Pragati Maidan metro station at 1600 hrs today” read Tweets.

The hashtags “#LiesIveToldMyParents,” “#overthesummer” and “#3words” feature at the top of Twitter’s most talked about topics list on August 16 and are followed by the the movie “Alpha Dog” and the TV series “Everybody Hates Chris” in fourth and sixth places.

Tweeps in the US are wishing their followers goodnight or tweeting that they “can’t sleep.” On the other side of the globe German speakers are saying good morning (“Guten Morgen”) to their followers.
